Becoming a Christian

Who is Jesus?

Jesus is the son of God. He came to this earth so that we may have life and have it more abundantly. He came that we may have eternal life.

What did He do for Me?

The Problem:

Mankind has a problem. We are all sinners. The Bible tells us that (Romans 3:23). The bible also tells us that there is a wage for that sin (Romans 6:23). Just like we deserve to receive a wage when we work at a job, there is a wage that we deserve to receive since we are sinners. The wage for that sin is spiritual death. If you experience spiritual death after you die here on earth you will spend an eternity away from God in Hell. You see, our sin separates us from God. It creates a giant canyon between us and God. A canyon that we cannot get across on our own.

Man's attempts to solve the problem:

Through the ages, individuals have tried in many ways to bridge this gap...without success. The bible says: "There is a way that seems right to man, but in the end it leads to death." Proverbs 14:12

Some think that just being a good person will get them to heaven after they die. Some think that going to church every Sunday will get them to heaven after they die. And some think that doing good works will get them to heaven. But none of these will work. They all lead to spiritual death. There is only one way to eternal life. Jesus tells us: "I am the way, the truth, the life. No one comes to the father except through me." John 14:6

The only solution to the problem is Jesus:

The great news is that we don't have to experience spiritual death! Jesus Christ received the penalty of our sins when He was crucified on the cross. The bible tell us: "...God is one side and all the people on the other side, and Christ Jesus, Himself man, is between them to bring them together..."

I Timothy 2:5

"But God demonstrates His own love for us in in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8

How Can I Know Jesus Christ?

Now it's time for you to respond to the solution that Jesus Christ gave us when He died on the cross. You can receive eternal life and know Jesus Christ personally by accepting Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. So what does that mean and how do you do that? It's very simple:

Admit that you are a sinner and be willing to turn away from the sin your life and live to please God.
Believe that there is a penalty for that sin.
Believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God and received the full penalty for your sin when He died on the cross.
Through prayer tell God you believe these things and invite Jesus Christ to come into your heart.

Here is a prayer that expresses these things. If you would like to receive Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior say these words from your heart, to God.

"Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner and have displeased You in many ways. I believe You died for my sin, and only through faith in You can I be forgiven. I want to turn from my sin and ask You to come into my life as my Savior and Lord. From this day on, I will follow You by living a life that pleases You. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for saving me. Amen."
